Terumo Interventional Systems (Somerset, NJ) announced the launch of the GlideSheath Slender Hydrophilic Introducer Sheath. Thin-wall technology permits a smaller insertion profile for radial access, enabling the delivery of larger devices (up to 6 F) in smaller arteries and permitting more patients to enter the transradial treatment pathway for percutaneous coronary intervention. The design allows physicians to perform diagnostic and interventional procedures without upsizing to a larger sheath, while Terumo Glide technology results in less penetration resistance at the puncture site than conventional sheaths.

Royal Philips Electronics (Andover, MA) announced that its Epiq Ultrasound System had recently received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration. The nSight system provides detailed ultrasound images, improved temporal resolution, the ability to see new levels of tissue uniformity without the need for critical transmit focal zone placement, and penetration at higher frequencies for better imaging on difficult patients. The system features Anatomical Intelligence technology, a database of anatomic structural models and adaptive system technology built into the system for more definitive clinical results including advanced organ modeling, image slicing, and proven quantification. Anatomical Intelligence includes a mitral valve navigator for live 3D planning of heart valve procedures.

Boston Scientific Corporation (Natick, MA) has received CE Mark approval and FDA 510(k) clearance for the Guidezilla Guide Extension Catheter. Guidezilla is designed to make complex percutaneous coronary intervention procedures easier by more efficiently delivering interventional devices such as balloons and stents in situations where extra backup support is needed.
“Guidezilla provides a new level of confidence and reassurance in treating complex lesions,” said John Lasala, MD, Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Director of Interventional Cardiology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. “I've found it can reduce the time and effort required in many complex procedures.”
The stainless steel hypotube shaft provides exceptional pushability and kink resistance, and the hydrophilic coating on the outer diameter reduces friction, making it easier for interventional cardiologists to navigate difficultto- reach areas.

The OptiCross Coronary Imaging Catheter (Boston Scientific Corporation, Natick, MA) has received United States FDA clearance, CE Mark, and Japan PMDA approval. OptiCross, a next-generation intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) catheter, offers better deliverability and higher-resolution imaging.
Designed to be compatible with the iLab Ultrasound Imaging System (Boston Scientific), OptiCross was created with the input of physicians from around the world to reduce challenges surrounding catheter delivery in complex cases. The low-profile delivery system features 5-F guide catheter compatibility; a shorter, tapered tip; a bisegmented catheter shaft; and a redesigned catheter hub for ease of connection.
The benefits of IVUS-guided percutaneous coronary intervention were reinforced at the TCT 2012 and EuroPCR meetings in May with the presentation of the ADAPT-DES IVUS substudy outcomes, which showed that IVUS can help improve patient outcomes.
