Spectrum Vascular Acquires Piccolo Medical

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Spectrum Vascular acquired Piccolo Medical, expanding its vascular access technology portfolio.
  • Piccolo CEO Augustus Shanahan and the Piccolo legacy team will join Spectrum.
  • Together, the companies will accelerate commercialization, deepen integration with Spectrum’s existing catheter portfolio, and scale the next-generation navigation platform.

June 12, 2026—Spectrum Vascular announced the acquisition of Piccolo Medical, a developer of catheter guidance products. Spectrum is a provider of vascular access and medication management products engineered to reduce health care–acquired infections.

According to the press release, the transaction deepens a partnership focused on bringing next-generation catheter guidance technology to market and advances Spectrum’s mission to deliver a complete, differentiated vascular access solution to the clinical community.

In January 2025, the companies entered into an agreement under which Spectrum Vascular would serve as the sole distributor of the Piccolo Medical catheter navigation and tip confirmation devices, including the ECGuide catheter guidance technology and the SmartPICC peripherally inserted central catheter product lines.

With the acquisition, Spectrum and Piccolo will together accelerate commercialization, deepen integration with Spectrum’s existing catheter portfolio, and scale the next-generation navigation platform, stated Spectrum.

The press release further advised that the legacy Piccolo team join Spectrum to advance development and commercialization of its 510(k)-cleared catheter guidance and location products.

Piccolo’s real-time catheter guidance utilizes blood flow sensing technology to guide catheter tip placement. In May 2026, Piccolo completed the first successful patient placements of its next-generation Nav+ stylet, noted Spectrum.

Augustus Shanahan, CEO of Piccolo, who will join Spectrum, commented on the acquisition in the press release.

“Joining the Spectrum team marks an exciting new chapter for Piccolo and for vascular access as a whole,” stated Shanahan. “I am incredibly proud of what the Piccolo team has built over the past decade, and together with Spectrum, we now have the platform, the portfolio, and the reach to set a new standard, delivering better outcomes for patients and real economic value for the hospitals that serve them.”

Kenneth Miller, CEO of Spectrum, added, “The acquisition of Piccolo Medical represents an important milestone in our mission to transform vascular access. By combining Piccolo’s breakthrough navigation technology with Spectrum’s vascular access portfolio and commercial reach, we are uniquely positioned to accelerate innovation, improve patient care, and redefine the standard of care for clinicians worldwide.”
