Quasar Medical Acquires Ridgeback Technologies

September 25, 2024—Quasar Medical announced the acquisition of Ridgeback Technologies, a Galway, Ireland–based developer of catheter balloons.

According to the company, the acquisition strengthens Quasar’s full-service device solutions with Ridgeback’s expertise in rapidly designing and producing a wide range of specialized balloons and the assembly of full balloon catheters. The acquisition enhances its ability to deliver customized balloon catheter solutions, accelerating time to market, scale-up efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Ridgeback’s specialized balloon offerings include bladed, perfusion, and multilumen balloons for a variety of medical procedures, including structural heart, cardiovascular, neurovascular, and peripheral interventions.

Quasar stated that the acquisition of Ridgeback Technologies provides (1) extensive on-site capabilities with complete balloon design, development, prototyping, and assembly, including mold design and mold manufacture with computer numerical control machining, extrusion, and injection molding capabilities; (2) in-house design, development, and prototyping capabilities that enable the delivery of high-quality catheter prototypes with rapid turnaround times; and (3) quality and assurance with expanded cleanroom and controlled environments with ISO13485:2016.
