One-Year VERITAS Data Presented for Abbott’s Amulet 360 LAA Occluder
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- One-year VERITAS data showed complete LAA closure in 96.3% of patients evaluated by TEE.
- More than 98% of patients remained free from ischemic stroke or systemic embolism through 1 year.
- Abbott’s Amulet 360 received CE Mark approval in August 2026 and remains investigational in the United States.
November 3, 2026—Abbott announced 1-year results from the pivotal VERITAS study evaluating the company’s Amulet 360 left atrial appendage (LAA) occluder in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (AF). Data showed the device achieved high closure rates of the LAA and a low incidence of stroke.
The findings were presented by DJ Lakkireddy, MD, as late-breaking data at TCT 2026 and simultaneously published in JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions.
According to Abbott, the 1-year VERITAS results showed that 96.3% of patients evaluated by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) achieved complete LAA closure, defined as zero residual leak. Additional findings included:
- More than 98% of patients were free from ischemic stroke or systemic embolism through 1 year.
- More than 99% were free from pericardial effusion requiring intervention.
- More than 98% were free from cardiovascular-related mortality.
- A total of 93.4% of patients remained free from major bleeding events during the first year.
“For patients with nonvalvular AF who require an alternative to long-term oral anticoagulation, achieving durable and complete LAA closure is an important clinical goal,” stated Dr. Lakkireddy, Executive Medical Director of the Kansas City Heart Rhythm Institute, Professor of Medicine at the University of Missouri, and President-Elect of the Heart Rhythm Society. “The VERITAS trial results are highly encouraging, demonstrating high rates of complete closure sustained through 12 months. These findings reinforce the potential of the Amulet 360 technology to provide physicians with an effective treatment option as we continue to advance strategies for stroke risk reduction in this patient population.”
Amulet 360 is a next-generation LAA occlusion device designed for patients with nonvalvular AF who may require an alternative to long-term oral anticoagulation. Compared with Abbott’s previous-generation Amulet device, Amulet 360 has a softer, more conformable lobe intended to accommodate a broader range of LAA anatomies, along with an outer disc that provides a second sealing layer.
The VERITAS pivotal study enrolled more than 450 patients, including roll-in patients, at over 30 hospitals in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Amulet 360 received CE Mark approval in August 2026 and is currently approved for investigational use only in the United States.
