KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Mitria Medical partnered with T45 Labs to advance development of its investigational subvalvular spacer (SVS) for functional mitral regurgitation.
  • First implantation of the SVS device was performed by co-inventors Samir Kapadia, MD, and Jose Navia, MD, at the Cleveland Clinic under the FDA’s Single Patient Expanded Access Program.
  • Sarwan Berrada-Sounni, who is Founder and Managing Partner of T45 Labs, will serve as Chief Executive Officer of Mitria Medical.

October 1, 2026—Mitria Medical announced a partnership with T45 Labs, a Silicon Valley medtech incubator focused on minimally invasive cardiovascular technologies.

Mitria Medical is an early-stage structural heart company developing the investigational subvalvular spacer (SVS), a next-generation transcatheter solution for mitral valve repair to treat functional mitral regurgitation.

T45 Labs, which builds and funds acquisition-ready cardiovascular companies, will support Mitria Medical across product development, financing, operations, and clinical and regulatory strategy, noted the press release.

According to the company, six patients have received the SVS implant. Early clinical experience has been presented at four structural heart conferences: Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics; New York Valves; the American Association for Thoracic Surgery’s Mitral Conclave, and Miami Valves.

Samir Kapadia, MD, and Jose Navia, MD, who are the co-inventors of the SVS device, performed the first United States implantation at the Cleveland Clinic under the FDA’s Single Patient Expanded Access Program.

Dr. Kapadia is Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Navia is Vice Chief of the Heart, Vascular, & Thoracic Institute at the Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston, Florida.

The company also announced that Marwan Berrada-Sounni, who is Founder and Managing Partner of T45 Labs, will serve as Chief Executive Officer of Mitria Medical.

“We are thrilled to have Mitria join the T45 portfolio,” commented Berrada-Sounni in the press release. “The differentiated mitral repair technology has demonstrated a meaningful early clinical experience to address the limitations of edge-to-edge valve repair, potentially expanding treatment options for patients with functional mitral regurgitation.”

Berrada-Sounni continued, “The Cleveland Clinic Innovations program nurtured the promising SVS technology, and we look forward to advancing the development and clinical evaluation backed by T45 Labs’ hands-on operating model, cardiovascular expertise, and company development acumen.”
