Inquis Launches Aventus Thrombectomy Catheter With 360° Directional Aspiration for PE

September 30, 2026—Inquis Medical, a developer of treatments for venous thromboembolic disease, announced the United States commercial launch of the latest Aventus catheter, which received FDA 510(k) clearance in July 2026.

According to the company, the Aventus thrombectomy system is designed to provide physicians with 360° sweeping directional aspiration for clot removal within the vasculature. The system also includes the company’s real-time TrueClot tissue sensing and autologous blood return in a single platform. Additionally, the catheter pairs with the recently launched Aventus introducer sheath, which provides controlled hemostasis across device sizes and facilitates blood return, noted the company.

Inquis stated that the Aventus thrombectomy system is intended for use in the peripheral vasculature and for the treatment of pulmonary embolism (PE). It is indicated for the nonsurgical removal of emboli and thrombi from blood vessels; for the injection, infusion, and/or aspiration of contrast media and other fluids into or from a blood vessel; and for autologous blood transfusion. In June 2025, Inquis Medical announced FDA clearance for the Aventus thrombectomy system to treat PE.

Inquis stated that the features expand the Aventus thrombectomy system into a comprehensive access-to-aspiration platform for venous thrombectomy.

The company advised that the first-in-human PE procedure using the new catheter was performed by vascular and interventional radiologist Austin Bourgeois, MD, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama.

“The latest Aventus catheter brings a new level of control to navigating the complex anatomy of the pulmonary vasculature,” commented Dr. Bourgeois in the Inquis press release. “The system made it easy to direct the aspiration tip toward the clot, while tissue sensing helped me distinguish clot from vessel wall. These features together made clot removal more targeted and efficient, and I was able to move through the branches of the pulmonary arteries with agility.”
