Biotronik Brings IMDS Micro Rx Rapid-Exchange Microcatheter to United States
February 8, 2024—Biotronik announced the introduction of the Micro Rx rapid-exchange microcatheter for guidewire support during percutaneous coronary intervention.
According to the company, the Micro Rx features a reinforced distal shaft with a core wire between two layers of braids for optimal push transfer and a tapered tip. Additionally, the device includes a proximal end-stop that allows for seamless integration of a guide extension catheter (compatible with a 6-F guide extension catheter to gain additional support). Its design aims to prioritize user-friendly intervention, eliminating the need for trapping.
Ashish Pershad, MD, an early user of the Micro Rx catheter, commented on his experience in the company’s announcement: “It provides good support and has a low profile, allowing for great tip control for coronary guidewires in complex lesions. Not having to switch out your [over-the-wire] catheter after you cross a difficult lesion is a huge convenience in an era where 190-cm wires are the norm in most cath labs.” Dr. Pershad is Director of Interventional Cardiology at Chandler Regional Medical Center and Mercy Gilbert Medical Center in Chandler, Arizona.
Micro Rx, which is manufactured by IMDS (Interventional Medical Device Solutions), will be exclusively distributed in the United States by Biotronik. This marks the fourth device from IMDS that Biotronik distributes in the United States; the others include NHancer Rx, TrapIT, and ReCross catheters.
The Micro Rx catheter is currently available in the United States and will be available in Canada starting March 2024.
