August 21, 2026—The AVANXA feasibility study of the PercAssist extravascular ventricular assist device (eVAD) has enrolled the first patient in São Paulo, Brazil.
PercAssist, Inc., a developer of technology for extravascular biventricular mechanical circulatory support (MCS) to provide hemodynamic improvements for patients in cardiogenic shock (CS), announced the milestone in a press release.
According to the company the PercAssist, eVAD system enables first-line interventional cardiologists to provide an extravascular solution for patients in need of hemodynamic support for CS.
The feasibility study, which is continuing to enroll patients in São Paulo under Alexandre Abizaid, MD; Carlos Campos, MD; and Roger Renault Godinho, MD, will be followed by a United States investigational device exemption study, advised PercAssist.
In the press release, Dr. Campos discussed the clinical results from the first patient enrolled in the AVANXA study.
“The eVAD device was easily implanted in minutes in a patient recovering from ST-elevation myocardial infarction with Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI) stage D CS with noted improvements in hemodynamic performance,” commented Dr. Campos. “The patient’s blood pressures normalized, and the use of vasopressors have diminished.”
Dr. Campos added, “This early feasibility experience with a SCAI Stage D CS subject provides encouraging results of the feasibility of the PercAssist eVAD system breakthrough technology, which does not require vascular access, anticoagulants, or contrast, potentially minimizing complications observed with current MCS devices. I am extremely excited to continue our early feasibility study to evaluate the innovative PercAssist eVAD system in less severe SCAI Stage CS subjects (C and D) in the coming weeks in São Paulo, Brazil.”
