  • Abbott launches the CardioMEMS Hero pulmonary artery (PA) pressure reader in the United States for detecting and treating HF progression.
  • Part of the CardioMEMS HF system, the next-generation reader is 60% lighter than its predecessor and is designed to improve portability and ease of use.
  • Integrated Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity allow patients to transmit PA pressure data to clinicians from virtually any location with a signal.

June 9, 2026—Abbott announced on its LinkedIn page that the company’s CardioMEMS Hero device is now available in the United States. The company’s next-generation pulmonary artery (PA) pressure reader, which is intended to support the care of patients with heart failure (HF), features a smaller, lighter design.

In early 2026, the company announced FDA approval of the Hero device as a new component of the CardioMEMS HF system and is designed to work with the CardioMEMS PA sensor.

As outlined in the earlier press release, the device's new features for detecting and treating HF progression include that it is 60% lighter than the previous model and is designed to fit in a carry-on suitcase. The new design enables a consistent reading position with the patient laying down to provide reliable daily PA pressure trends. Additionally, integrated Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity allow patients to take a reading virtually anywhere they have a signal and securely send the data to their care team, stated Abbott.
