Svelte Medical and Asahi Intecc Enter Into Manufacturing and Branding Alliance

February 12, 2015—Svelte Medical Systems, Inc. and Asahi Intecc USA, Inc. have executed formal agreements relating to the manufacture and cobranding of the Svelte drug-eluting coronary stent fixed-wire integrated delivery system (IDS). The collaboration will feature Asahi’s ActOne wire technology in the design, development, and supply of core wire and coil assemblies for the Svelte IDS.

The companies advised that the Svelte IDS, with its low crimped stent profile, is designed to optimize transradial interventions (TRI) and the ‘slender’ approach to percutaneous coronary intervention by allowing the use of smaller catheter sizes used during procedures. The press release noted that TRI is the default interventional strategy in Japan and parts of Europe; also, the number of TRI procedures in the United States is growing rapidly.

Svelte Medical is working with regulatory authorities to secure approval to conduct pivotal studies with the IDS in Japan and the United States. The Svelte IDS is expected to be commercially available in Europe in 2015.
