Siemens to Sell Hospital Information Systems Business to Cerner

August 5, 2014—Siemens Healthcare announced that the company plans to divest its hospital information system business (HS) for $1.3 billion in cash to the United States-based company Cerner Corporation. The HS business is focused on administrative hospital information technology and electronic patient records and is thus different from information technology that enhances the capabilities of imaging modalities and laboratory equipment.

The HS business is headquartered in Malvern, Pennsylvania and employs some 6,000 employees worldwide with operations in the United States, Europe (particularly Germany), and Asia. The transaction is subject to applicable regulatory approvals and planned to close during the first quarter of calendar year 2015.

At the same time with the divestment, Siemens Healthcare and Cerner are engaging in a strategic alliance in the field of next-generation healthcare information technology, advised Siemens.
