SCAI Conducts Survey on Combined Heart Failure and Interventional Cardiology Training

March 7, 2022—The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI) is conducting a survey to gather information on the current state of the Interventional Heart Failure field. The survey asks dual fellowship-trained or otherwise dual board-eligible specialists about their careers. The initiative is being led by Navin Kapur, MD, and Miguel Alvarez Villela, MD. The invitation to participate in the survey is posted on the SCAI website.

Dual board-certified or board-eligible specialists in advanced heart failure and interventional cardiology are requested to take the 10-minute survey on how specialists are applying this combined training in their current practice and what they envision for the future. The invitation on the SCAI website asks that those physicians who are not dual board-certified or board-eligible specialists in advanced heart failure and interventional cardiology forward the survey to colleagues who are. The link to complete the survey is here.

According to Dr. Kapur and Dr. Alvarez Villela’s announcement, these results will help future trainees understand the potential of pursuing combined training, as well as serve to create a network among the pioneers of this exciting new field.

They noted that “interventional heart failure specialist” is now a reality as more cardiologists entering the workforce have completed formal fellowship training or are otherwise board eligible in both advanced heart failure and interventional cardiology. However, the exact number of such specialists and their scope of practice is mostly unknown.
