Reflow Launches CoraCatheters Line of Microcatheters for Complex PCI

May 18, 2023—Reflow Medical, Inc. announced that it has received FDA clearance for its CoraCatheters line of microcatheters that are designed to access and cross complex and challenging lesions in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

According to the company, the CoraCatheters line includes:

  • The CoraFlex microcatheter, which features an integrated flexible polymer tip for precise navigation of tortuous anatomies, plus optimal guidewire movement and support
  • The CoraForce microcatheter, which features a metallic tip that maximizes tip force with minimal tip fatigue and provides extra pushability and support, while maintaining a low profile throughout
  • The CoraCross crossing device, which employs Reflow’s bevel-extension technology, adapted specifically for penetrating heavily calcified caps

Reflow developed a specific technology called CoraTech to produce the catheters. CoraTech has a robust, multilayer body design that accommodates different tips, promotes superior lumen integrity and kink resistance, and provides extreme support while tracking through tortuous anatomies. The absence of an inner liner also promotes superior torque response, advised the company.

Jay Mathews, MD, commented in Reflow’s press release, “The CoraCatheters devices are the next generation in PCI care. They can also be effectively used to treat critical limb ischemia.”

The company noted that Dr. Mathews, who is Cath Lab Director at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida, was involved in every stage of clinical development of the devices.

William Lombardi, MD, Clinical Professor and Director of Complex Coronary Artery Disease Therapies at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, provided clinical experience for developing the new catheters along with his colleagues Lorenzo Azzalini, MD, Director of Interventional Cardiology Research and Associate Professor of Medicine, and interventional cardiologist Kathleen Kearny, MD.

“It’s exciting to see a company do the work it takes to produce innovative devices in the coronary space,” commented Dr. Lombardi in the press release. “After Reflow came to us, there was no stopping until we got it right.”

Dr. Azzalini added, “We’ve experienced outstanding bilateral torque control with CoraCatheters. It can be a game changer for successfully treating severely calcified lesions.”
