Rampart IC Appoints Dr. Eric Secemsky to Medical Advisory Board
February 29, 2024—Rampart IC, an Alabama-based medical device company with radiation shielding solutions to protect catheterization lab teams without the need for traditional lead aprons, announced that Interventional Cardiologist Eric A. Secemsky, MD, will join the company’s Medical Advisory Board. Dr. Secemsky is Director of Vascular Intervention and an interventional cardiologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston, Massachusetts, where he leads the interventional cardiology and vascular research program at the Smith Center for Outcomes Research in Cardiology.
Rampart’s solutions, which are available directly and through distribution partnerships, are implemented in catheterization labs and other interventional suites worldwide. Other members of the company’s Medical Advisory Board include Rhian Davies, DO; Bill Lombardi, MD; Bill Nicholson, MD; Steve Steuterman; Didier Tchétché, MD; and Professor James Spratt, MD.
According to the company, Dr. Secemsky is passionate about maintaining the safety of his patients as well as his colleagues and staff who perform interventional procedures while being exposed to the risks of ionizing radiation and the effects of wearing heavy lead aprons.
“As we innovate and expand the reach of our solutions to other therapies, Dr. Secemsky’s experience and passion will be instrumental in enabling access to Rampart’s solutions for all interventional teams around the world,” stated Rampart’s Founder and Chief Medical Officer Bob Foster, MD, in the company’s press release.
Rampart CEO Tom Livingston added, “Eric brings a depth of experience, incredible reputation, and a tremendously powerful mind to our team. More importantly, Eric also has a heart for protecting the health care provider in the cath lab. We look forward to being on this mission with Eric.”
Dr. Secemsky commented, “I’m honored to join the Rampart Medical Advisory Board. Radiation safety and orthopedic protection are a passion of mine. Performing countless complex procedures over the years has shown me first-hand the risks of ionizing radiation and the orthopedic damage from wearing heavy lead aprons. I want to ensure the next generation of interventional teams experience a safer and more comfortable work environment, so they can be active and enjoy life outside the interventional suite.”
In addition to attending in the cardiac catheterization lab and the inpatient and outpatient vascular medicine services at BIDMC, Dr. Secemsky is an associate editor at Vascular Medicine and is on the Editorial Boards at Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions and JSCAI. He is the current Chair of the PERT Consortium Research Committee, a writing member of the 2022 ACC/AHA Guideline on the Management of Lower Extremity Peripheral Artery Disease, and a member of the Board of Directors for the VIVA Foundation and the Society for Vascular Medicine.
