Radiaction Establishes Medical Advisory Board

August 13, 2024—Radiaction Medical, Ltd, an Israel-based medical device company founded by Amir Belson, MD, announced the formation of its United States medical advisory board (MAB).

Radiaction Medical is focused on comprehensive radiation protection for all medical staff involved in interventional procedures. The company’s Radiaction device is a plug-and-play addition to C-arm systems that blocks up to 97% of scatter radiation at the source. The device has received CE Mark approval in Europe and FDA clearance in the United States.

According to the company, the MAB will serve as a resource for Radiaction’s efforts to develop innovative radiation protection. These efforts emphasize procedural adaptability integrated into various workflows, encompassing coronary, structural heart, electrophysiology, and peripheral procedures. The MAB will convene regularly to provide counsel and expertise to the company’s executive team.

The company stated that the MAB includes:

  • Kenneth Rosenfield, MD, interventional cardiologist and Section Head for Vascular Medicine and Intervention at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts
  • Nadia Sutton, MD, Assistant Professor and Director of Interventional Cardiology Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee
  • William A. Gray, MD, Professor of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University, System Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases at Main Line Health, Philip D. Robinson Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine, and Co-Director of Lankenau Heart Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Craig Walker, MD, who is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology and Founder of the Cardiovascular Institute of the South in Houma, Louisiana
  • Jasvindar Singh, MD, interventional cardiologist, Professor of Medicine, and Section Head of Interventional and Structural Cardiology at Washington University School of Medicine, Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri
  • Evan Shlofmitz, DO, interventional cardiologist and Director of Intravascular Imaging at St. Francis Hospital—The Heart Center in Roslyn, New York
  • Michael S. Gossman, MS, Chief Medical Physicist in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana

“Over the course of my career, scatter radiation and its occupational hazards have affected many of my staff and colleagues,” commented Dr. Gray in the company’s press release. “There have been a number of technologies that have emerged to reduce scatter while addressing workflow and patient access concerns.”

Dr. Gray continued, “In my opinion, Radiaction’s system provides an intuitive solution by blocking scatter radiation at the source. This allows for procedural versatility, easy setup, and immediate patient access during urgent or emergent clinical situations. As a class II device, it is held to a higher standard by the FDA, requiring the generation of scientific data for its use. I view this as a natural accessory with C-arm systems to protect everyone in the lab during all procedures. I am proud to be on this journey with the Radiaction team.”
