Philips VeriSight Pro 3D ICE Catheter Begins International Launch
May 29, 2024—Royal Philips recently announced the international launch of the company’s VeriSight Pro three-dimensional (3D) intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) catheter. Hospitals in Hong Kong have started using the VeriSight Pro, which marks the first time the device has been used clinically outside the United States or Canada.
According to Philips, VeriSight Pro is designed for use with the company’s Epiq CVx and Epiq CVxi ultrasound systems. VeriSight Pro offers two-dimensional and 3D live imaging to allow interventionalists to navigate procedures easily and optimize interventional suite performance, while reducing the need for sedation or general anesthesia.
The company stated that the VeriSight Pro catheter is based on the Philips xMatrix array 3D steerable beam ultrasound transducer technology and provides real-time 3D imaging for planning and guiding interventional procedures.
Among the Hong Kong hospitals participating in the VeriSight Pro international rollout are Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Queen Mary Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong Asia Heart Centre, Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, and Hong Kong Adventist Hospital.
The company noted that several of these institutions began using VeriSight Pro in April under the guidance of Gagan Singh, MD, and Edris Aman, MD, who pioneered the use of ICE at University of California Davis Health in Sacramento, California, for the past 2 years.
Michael Lee, MD, Head of Cardiology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Hong Kong commented on the device in the company’s press release.
“The VeriSight Pro 3D ICE catheter delivers the image quality we need to characterize otherwise difficult-to-image heart structures such as the left atrial appendage or tricuspid valve, allowing us to achieve more advanced procedural imaging for our patients,” stated Dr. Lee. “Philips has taken us up the learning curve remarkably quickly, so we can use it safely and confidently.”
