Osso VR and ACC Collaborate on Curriculum for LAAO Procedure Simulation Training
April 4, 2024—Osso VR announced the release of a curriculum developed with the American College of Cardiology (ACC). The collaboration expands the presence of Osso VR, a company focused on immersive procedural training, in the cardiovascular sector.
According to the company, the integration of Osso VR’s immersive technology and the expertise of the ACC will provide interventionalists with access to a state-of-the-art training simulation of the workflow and skills required to perform a left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) procedure. This procedure was selected because of the wide variety of complex skills necessary to successfully perform it, including transesophageal echocardiography.
Osso VR’s platform is intended to offer a realistic, engaging learning experience that allows users to run through complex scenarios in a repeatable, risk-free virtual environment. The platform provides comprehensive live imaging and refined instrumentation control on a virtual patient.
“ACC’s goal is to improve access to high-quality cardiovascular care,” commented ACC Chief Innovation Officer Ami Bhatt, MD, in the Osso VR press release. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Osso VR to augment traditional interventional training for some of the more complex and cutting-edge procedures in our field. This collaboration is the first step in a broader effort to increase access to consistent interventional cardiovascular care in the United States and globally.”
Justin Barad, MD, Founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Osso VR, added, “We’re honored to introduce our cardiology module in collaboration with the ACC. The ACC has transformed the way cardiovascular care is being delivered—with innovation and technology being a cornerstone of this success. The alignment of our institutions’ missions is strong, and with the vision of organizations like the ACC, we are progressively seeing immersive training become the standard for provider education globally.”
Osso VR advised it will be offering a demonstration of its LAAO training in the Personalized Skills and Simulation Center at the ACC annual scientific session, which will be held April 6-8 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
