Merit Medical Acquires Pressure-Assisted Hemostatic Devices From Datascope

October 7, 2013—Merit Medical Systems, Inc. (South Jordan, UT) announced that it has acquired the Safeguard pressure-assisted device and the Air-Band radial compression device from Datascope Corporation (Montvale, NJ). The Safeguard device assists in obtaining and maintaining hemostasis after a femoral procedure, and the Air-Band is indicated to assist hemostasis of the radial artery puncture site while maintaining visibility.

According to Merit Medical, both products have US Food and Drug Administration and European CE Mark regulatory clearances. The Safeguard is commercially available. The Air-Band has not yet been formally launched. The company plans to introduce the Air-Band at the VIVA 2013: Vascular InterVentional Advances conference on October 8–11 in Las Vegas, Nevada and the TCT 2013: Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics conference on October 27 to November 3 in San Francisco, California.
