Medtronic’s VitalFlow ECMO System Approved in Europe

July 1, 2025—Medtronic announced that the company’s VitalFlow extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) system received CE Mark approval. The company stated that the simple, fully integrated ECMO portfolio is now available in Europe.

The company announced the launch of VitalFlow ECMO system in the United States in September 2024.

Medtronic stated that the VitalFlow system is designed to simplify intensive care unit (ICU) operations, providing ease of use and adaptability. Its intuitive interface empowers every ICU team member—regardless of experience level—to operate ECMO. Additionally, the VitalFlow ECMO system features configurable, upgradeable architecture.

According to the company, the VitalFlow technology was obtained by Medtronic in its acquisition of MC3 Cardiopulmonary, which closed in March 2024.
