Medtronic Launches Export Advance Coronary Aspiration Catheter in United States

October 21, 2013––Medtronic, Inc. (Minneapolis, MN) announced the United States launch of its newest coronary thrombectomy device, the Export Advance aspiration catheter, which recently received US Food and Drug Administration clearance.

According to Medtronic, the Export Advance device features a preloaded stylet, which is a core wire that runs through the middle of the shaft to provide more support during delivery. The stylet increases the deliverability and kink resistance of the device while traversing the vasculature to reach the aspiration site. The Export Advance is constructed with full-wall variable braiding technology that provides variable degrees of stiffness along the length of the device to enhance flexibility and pushability while navigating the device through the vasculature.

In May, Medtronic announced that the Export Advance coronary aspiration catheter received European CE Mark approval. The device has been introduced in various international markets since then.

“With the Export Advance aspiration catheter, Medtronic has taken the power and deliverability of manual thrombectomy devices to a new level,” commented Hoang Thai, MD, in the company's press release. Dr. Thai is Associate Professor of Medicine and Associate Program Director of the interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Arizona.
