EU Approves Abbott Vascular's Trek Catheter

May 26, 2010—Abbott Vascular (Santa Clara, CA) announced the European approval and launch of its Trek coronary dilatation catheter for the treatment of coronary artery disease. Abbott received CE Mark approval for the Trek system earlier this year. In the United States, Trek is an investigational device and is not available for sale.

According to Abbott Vascular, the Trek system is available in two catheter designs, including the Mini-Trek specialty catheter for accessing smaller vessels. Trek is available available in 77 sizes and in a variety of diameters (1.2–5 mm) and lengths (6–30 mm). It currently is available on a rapid-exchange delivery system. Abbott plans to launch a high-pressure version called NC Trek later this year. The Trek dilatation catheter is the delivery platform for Abbott's future generations of stent technology, the company stated.
