Cathi’s Next-Generation Right Heart Catheter Is Launched

March 9, 2022—Cathi Distribution GmbH, a Mannheim, Germany-based company specializing in endovascular simulators, announced the launch of the Cathis RHC 2, the company’s next-generation right heart catheter (RHC) simulator.

According to the company, the Cathis RHC 2 was developed in consultation with the Cologne Cardiovascular Research Center (CCRC) in Cologne, Germany. The device feature includes Cathi’s original RHC simulator, with the additional benefits of wire-assisted navigation and the potential to work with real liquids (S-HUB), thereby allowing thermodilution to be performed on a highly realistic basis. The device is inserted via the jugular or femoral artery.

Cathi stated that the RHC provides an invasive examination of the right heart (atrium and ventricle) that can detect pathological changes via pressure measurement. This includes central venous pressure, right atrium pressure and right ventricular pressure, pressure in the pulmonary arteries and capillaries, and cardiac output. The differences in blood pressure determine the hemodynamics of the heart. In addition, blood samples can be taken at various points to measure oxygen content.

Professor Stephan Rosenkranz, MD, who is Head of the CCRC, commented in the company’s press release, “Characterizing the exact hemodynamics of patients with cardiovascular disease is becoming increasingly important, so improvement in teaching and knowledge transfer in this field is urgently required.”

Prof. Rosenkranz continued, “Hands-on training using state-of-the-art methods offers an excellent opportunity for a sustainable and efficient transfer of knowledge and understanding of hemodynamic relationships. Cathis RHC 2, the new innovative simulator developed with CCRC’s expertise, will significantly enrich our training capabilities.”
