Boston Scientific's Promus Element PtCr Stent Approved in Japan

March 1, 2012—Boston Scientific Corporation (Natick, MA) announced the launch of its Promus Element everolimus-eluting platinum chromium (PtCr) coronary stent system in Japan, where it was recently approved by the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare. The device is now available in all major markets worldwide.

The company noted that the device's PtCr alloy is designed specifically for coronary stenting and enables enhanced visibility, less recoil, excellent conformability, and greater radial strength. The Promus Element employs a low-profile delivery system to enable precise stent placement across challenging lesions. The everolimus drug and fluorinated copolymer used on the Promus Element stent have been studied in multiple randomized clinical trials and registries, advised Boston Scientific.
