Biotronik Launches Galeo Pro Guidewire in Europe

July 18, 2013—Biotronik, Inc. (Lake Oswego, OR) announced the launch of Galeo Pro, the company's next generation of guidewires. The Galeo Pro has received CE Mark approval and is available in Europe, and it is being launched gradually in additional international markets. In the United States, the Galeo Pro has not been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration and is not available for sale. The original Galeo is currently available in the United States and more than 45 countries, advised Biotronik.

Galeo Pro, which will be available with varying tip flexibility, shape, length, and support, is a workhorse guidewire suitable for the most simple to the most challenging clinical cases, stated Biotronik.

The Galeo Pro's high tensile stainless steel core provides increased durability and excellent shape retention that allow the physician to treat multiple lesions with one wire, thus increasing safety and saving procedure time. This new generation of Biotronik's Galeo guidewire maintains outstanding torque and trackability from previous models.

Krzysztof Reczuch, MD, from the 4th Military Clinical Hospital in Wroclaw, Poland, commented on the Galeo Pro in the company's press release. Dr. Reczuch stated, “Successful percutaneous coronary intervention starts with a good guidewire that you can rely on. A guidewire is certainly one of the most important tools for the physician and in many cases determines the success of the procedure. Galeo Pro provides excellent characteristics for both simple and challenging procedures. It delivers outstanding support, torque, and lubricity for easy passage through complex anatomies, as well as enabling the smooth delivery of devices.”
