ACC/AHA Publish 2024 Update to 2020 Clinical Performance and Quality Measures for Adults With HF
August 8, 2024—The American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) have issued the 2024 update on clinical performance and quality measures for adults with heart failure (HF).
Michelle M. Kittleson, MD, et al published the document online in JACC and Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes.
In its advisory, the ACC noted that the 2024 document is a focused update of the 2020 ACC/AHA clinical performance and quality easures for adults with HF and reflects changes from the recent 2022 AHA/ACC/Heart Failure Society of America guideline for the management of HF.
According to ACC, the document describes evidence-based performance measures that are appropriate for public reporting or pay-for-performance programs, as well as quality measures that may be useful for quality improvement but may not have as strong of an evidence base. Exceptions and exclusions to these measures are noted in the update.
ACC stated that no performance or quality measures were retired or revised from the 2020 ACC/AHA clinical performance and quality measures document but three new performance measures (PM) and six new quality measures (QM) were created in the 2024 update.
The ACC outlined the new PMs and QMs online here. Specific to coronary interventions, the fifth new QM addresses the percentage of adult patients with HF with reduced ejection fraction receiving optimal guideline-directed therapy before receiving mitral valve transcatheter edge-to-edge repair for severe functional mitral regurgitation.
