ACC Names Leadership for 2024-2025

April 15, 2024—The American College of Cardiology (ACC) announced its leadership appointments for the 1-year term of 2024-2025, effective immediately. The announcement was made during ACC.24, the annual scientific session held April 6-8 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Himabindu Vidula, MD, will serve as chair of the ACC Board of Governors and secretary of the Board of Trustees. Dr. Vidula will lead governors from chapters representing all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Mexico, as well as representatives from the United States health services.

Cathie Biga, RN, MSN, became President of the ACC, representing more than 56,000 cardiovascular care team members around the world. She is the organization’s first nonphysician president, noted the press release.

Other new officers for 2024-2025 are Vice President Christopher Kramer, MD; Treasurer Akshay K. Khandelwal, MD; Board of Trustees Members Bonnie Ky, MD, and Lee R. Goldberg, MD; and Board of Governors Chair-Elect David E. Winchester, MD.

As stated in the ACC press release, Dr. Vidula is Associate Professor of Medicine and Medical Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) at the University of Pennsylvania and the medical lead for MCS across Penn Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her research grants fund multicenter studies of blood pressure and exercise in left ventricular assist device recipients.

She previously served as the Upstate Governor of the ACC’s New York State Chapter, served as a member of the ACC BOG Steering Committee, and served on the ACC Board of Trustees’ Enhancing Member Engagement Task Force.

Dr. Vidula received her medical degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. She completed her internal medicine residency, cardiovascular disease fellowship and advanced heart failure fellowship at Northwestern University.

Cathie Biga is president and CEO of Cardiovascular Management of Illinois, a cardiology physician practice management company headquartered in Woodridge, Illinois. She has more than 40 years of experience as a registered nurse, service line director, hospital vice president and CEO, as well as 25 years of experience in physician practice management.

Biga has been an ACC member for more than 25 years. She has served on multiple committees, including the Health Affairs Committee, Finance Committee and Cardiovascular Management Council and was the inaugural chair of MedAxiom’s Board of Managers. She has been a member of the ACC Board of Trustees for 6 years, most recently serving as vice president, noted the ACC press release.
