Abbott Launches Voyager NC Coronary Balloon Catheter

March 10, 2009—Abbott Vascular (Santa Clara, CA) announced the launch of the Voyager NC coronary dilatation catheter, a next-generation balloon dilatation catheter with high-pressure capability, designed for the treatment of patients with coronary artery disease who undergo angioplasty procedures. The Voyager is commercially available in the United States, Europe, and select countries in Asia and Latin America.

According to Abbott Vascular, the Voyager can be used for both predilatation and postdilatation procedures. It is designed to navigate tortuous anatomy and open lesions before a stent is delivered, or to expand a stent more precisely against the vessel wall after it is implanted. The Voyager is offered in 2- to 5-mm diameters and 6- to 25-mm lengths on a rapid exchange delivery system. The Voyager NC balloon dilatation catheter features a tip that is designed to deflect off of stent struts and enhance balloon delivery through stents. It also includes flexible tungsten markers that are designed to help navigation and positioning, and bilayer balloon material, which is designed to make the balloon thinner and more flexible and to enable controlled balloon growth, the company stated.
