SMT Enters Structural Heart Market With Acquisition of Vascular Concepts
May 28, 2020—Sahajanand Medical Technologies Pvt Ltd (SMT), a global medical device company based in India, announced its entry into the structural heart segment with the acquisition of Vascular Concepts, which is also headquartered in India.
According to SMT, Vascular Concepts diversified product portfolio includes coronary stents, cardiac closure devices, peripheral stents, and balloon catheter devices for percutaneous transvenous mitral commissurotomy and transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
Vascular Concepts recently launched the Hydra transcatheter aortic valve system, which received Indian regulatory approval in 2020. The Hydra system is used for the treatment of high-risk patients with severe and symptomatic aortic valve stenosis.
According to SMT, Vascular Concepts will retain its distinct brand and independence. Vascular Concepts CEO Swaminathan Jayaraman will continue to manage the operation of the company. Established by Mr. Jayaraman in 1988, Vascular Concepts Group is composed of two entities based in India and Thailand with more than 200 employees, two manufacturing establishments, and two research and development centers.
